Scientific Programmer (m/f/d) in Climate System Modeling

Background
The Climate Dynamics section of the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI) in Bremerhaven, Germany, is looking for a motivated and skilled Scientific Programmer. This role focuses on adapting the OpenIFS 48r1 atmospheric general circulation model (GCM) to integrate CMIP7 forcing files such as greenhouse gases (GHG), solar radiation, aerosols, ozone, etc. The development aspect of the task will be joined work coordinated with the EC-Earth community. The successful candidate will be involved in conducting tuning simulations to ensure that the coupled atmosphere-ocean model, AWI-CM3 MR, maintains an accurate climate state for CMIP7. Additionally, the role includes executing CMIP7 DECK simulations, standardizing model outputs, and uploading them to the ESGF node.

This is a full-time position, limited to 28months. It is also suitable for part-time employment. The salary will be paid in accordance with the Collective Agreement for the Public Service of the Federation (Tarifvertrag des öffentlichen Dienstes, TVöD Bund), up to salary level 13. The place of employment will be Bremerhaven.
